Winter Trip to Prague

There is something about travelling during the winter season and having the opportunity to experience different Christmas cultures around the world that I find facinating. Winter, especially January can often feel a little gloomy with everyone having to go back to work/uni/ real life and so I felt like doing a throw back to 2015, when I went to Prague and somehow failed to put any info about my trip on my blog! With Christmas around the corner, there is nothing like some holiday inspiration to put me in the festive mood
We arrived in Prague at around midday and so after checking into our hotel we wandered into the new town region and located how to get to the old town as well.

We obviously entered plenty of shops and could resist taking the odd photo (especially when there were sunglasses like these available).

After attempting to get our bearings, we meandered back to the hotel to freshen up before heading straight back out for dinner.

We chose to eat in a restaurant called Potrefena  Husa located in the New Town near the river.

The food was absolutely delecious. It was one of those meals where everything was perfectly cooked. They also had crazy beer cocktails on the menu, perfect for any time eating ( and I personally preferred it to normal beer, but thats just me)..

Although my dessert wasn't quite as yummy as my main, just because of so tangy.

I was a very content girl with a full belly, and after walking back to our hotel, I was fast asleep in no time.

We started our second day at the markets located in the Old Town area of the city. We drank mulled wine, and wandered through the stalls.

We then went to locate the astronomical clock that Prague is famous for. There was a pretty big crowd awaiting the hour call.

The chimming of the clock was not quite as dramatic as you may believe, but the amount of different moving parts is still very impressive!

We decided to climb up to see the the view from the top of the clock as well. On the climb up, you get to read all of the history about Prague during World War Two. The city went through so much, and it made me appreciate everything a little bit more.

The views from the top were impressive, showing so much of the Old Town and the surrounding areas.

After exploring for a little bit, we stopped for a bite to eat at Caffe Diemme, a beautiful old style cafe in the traditional art deco design and waiters who serve you in bow ties.

The hot chocolate there was pretty lovely as well, and the view from the windows allows you to spy into the streets below. A perfect spot if like me you love a little bit of people watching.

In the afternoon we went to learn more about the history by heading to the Jewish cementry. The experience was harrowing. Sometimes you really need a reminder as to how bad things got 80 years ago to make you realise just how lucky we are today for the freedom we have.

After an emotional afternoon we headed back to the square.

We chose to have dinner in one of the restaurants (and a hotel) which has a roof terrace so we could spend the evening under a heated lamp drinking wine and eating incredible food!

I had a delcious duck stirfry. Nom nom nom!

After a super tasty mean we headed over to the ice bar for our 30 minute slot.

The ice bar has to be one of the coolest (pardon the pun) places I've been in, the venue is a nightclub so if you fancy carrying on your evening you can dance away on the old school light up disco dance floor.

Once inside naturally everything is made from ice, the chairs, our drinks, the fountain, which is certainly a unique experience and a good giggle to do something different in an evening.

After our evening, we started our walk back to the hotel, but not without a small trundle along the bridge where you can view so much of the city from. It certainly is beautiful.

Our final day in Prague saw us head for the castle, which is absolutely humongous is you're willing to take the time and explore.

We started in the Cathedral which as they come is very impressive. The artwork and carvings are exquisite. For me, there is something ever so peaceful exploring historic sites, maybe its because you have the opportunity to imagine just how many people have passed through the doors since they first opened.

I loved snapping away at both the inside and out of the cathedral. It was just so beautiful.

Just look at the stained glass!

We then found ourselves wandering around the grounds. The day was pretty chilly and so any extra warmth I could find (including a hot chocolate) was a huge bonus.

Next we headed down Golden Lane, a row of houses within the castle grounds where servents and castle defenders once lived. The houses now are all small shops selling home made goods from photographs to bubble bath.

It is certainly very picturesque but be careful, one drop of a phone onto the cobbled streets will mean a smashed screen (yes that really did happen to me).

We walked down all the steps on the other side of the castle back into the main town, whilst stopping in gallery shops on the way. After a quick bite to eat in a cafe we continued our walk around the town.

We crossed over the bridge we visited the previous night but this time there was a buzz of people and music.

As the afternoon drew to a close a made a wish on the wishing stone. After getting back to the hotel, we quickly got changed and grabbed dinner before heading over the very impressive theatre to watch a ballet performance.

Seeing dance in other countries has to be one of my favourite activities. After the show we headed back to the hotel and finished our last night with a cosmopolitan and eton mess!

It was the perfect end to a fabulous holiday!

Have you ever been to Prague? What are your favourite winter breaks?

Love
