Brand of the Week; ECOALF

ECOALF is a brand with a fantastic ethos. They don't believe fashion should use up our natural resources in a careless way and so that's why they recycle waste and turn it into their products.
To date, the company have recycled 70 million bottles to be used in their products.

80 tons worth of fishing nets have also been recycled into products which if left in the water can have a detrimental impact on the wildlife, reefs and ecosystems.

Another hard material the company recycle are tyres. For the company it took two years to separate the elements and now they can use them in their flipflops helping to alleviate the amount of tires going into waste or dumped illegally.

Logo Sneakers | £79                                        Laceless Sneakers | £79

One of the craziest products to be recycled by the company I think is coffee. Who would have thought that ground coffee can be dried, turned into powder and then mixed with recycled polyester to create the yarn used in the clothing!

Along with the recycling of nearly every material used for fabrics including cotton and wool, the companies foundation also helps upcycle waste from the ocean and other sources. With the help of fisherman they believe they can turn something negative into something positive.

The foundation works in both Spain and Thailand and involves local ports, communities, trawlers and fisherman to tackle waste in the water.

The removal of waste in Thailand is especially important for the environment because of the 8 million tons of trash that ends up in the ocean, 60% is from Asia. That's not to say that the waste all originated from Asia however. A lot of the reycling from the western world is shipped across to Asia to be disposed upon but this figure does highlight a huge problem in the recycling cycle.

Cape | £67.50                                                   Bomber Jacket | £73.50
In Spain 100 tons per year of marine debris has also been removed, demonstrating the true size of the problem.

The fact that ECOALF continue to innovate and create in a new way is not only fantastic for the environment but interesting for the pieces they create. Having a story behind a garment and knowing that it is good for the environment surely demonstrates how fashion and nature can work hand in hand.
