Cause of the Month; Wave Project

Sometimes you come across a place and a charity that makes you feel a little better about life and makes you want to to tell their story. That was what happened when I walked into the Wave Project in Newquay during my recent visit. The Wave Project recently inspired me to start a new blog segment called Cause of the Month.

Each month I'll find a small charity doing great things for their community and the world around them and tell you about them, because every charity deserves credit for the hard work they do.

The Wave Project is a charity which is all about using surfing as therapy for those in need. Those in need are often individuals who suffered from mental health issues such as anxiety and depression. The surf lessons are seen as a way to help them increase confidence and get them outside.

Sounds simple right? Well it is, and the project has had incredible results.

The results have shown that for those that go surfing once a week, not only did the lessons help them improve their outlook on life but also gave them more confidence.

The reason why I love this cause so much is because it's so simple!

The whole project is based on the community and people trying to help others. So many people around the coast surf and so having the opportunity to teach a lesson and improve someone's life is incredible.

I also loved the shop, its own products are great but what's even better is the huge number of second hand wetsuits the local community have donated in order to be resold by the charity.

Some of the vintage wetsuits are incredible as well, with every colour under the sun.

Sometimes simple ideas which help others like this really demonstrate what a great difference communities can make when they come together.
