What a crazy whirlwind trip. two nights, two and a quarter days in Rome really did fly by. Somehow though we managed to cram in pretty much everything we could dream to!
We arrived late on the Friday evening and after having a tour of our hotel, Relais Termi Di Tito, we had a super quick change and headed out for some late night sight seeing.
The pizza was of course, INCREDIBLE
After photos at the fountain we wandered back along the streets. The air was warm with street artists singing at every turn which was the perfect midnight stroll.
The next morning we had breakfast on our terrace and although the breakfast was super simple, it was all we needed before starting our day.
Our first stop was the Baths of Caracalla, a ruin which had hardly any tourists around.
Our first stop was the Baths of Caracalla, a ruin which had hardly any tourists around.
We strolled though all the ruins of each room feeling ever so small in the vast open spaces.
Next we headed Circo Massimo, not that there is much there but you can certainly imagine the extensive size of the race track which really was colossus.
Having crammed in so much culture already, we grabbed lunch at La Taverna dei Quaranta, a restaurant a short distance away from the Colosseum with great fresh food at good prices!
Next up was our tour of the Colosseum, Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum which was longer than we had originally expected at 4 hours.
The first part of the tour was of the Roman Forum and Palatine Hill, where we got to learn about the history of the town and it really did feel like you were walking through history.
The next part was of course the Colosseum.
Next we got a tour of the basement, being shown about the lifts and trap doors for how they lifted animals into the area for people to fight.
The weather was of course tropical and so after the tour we walked back up to the hotel and into the aircom room, bliss!
After getting changed we headed up onto the rooftop of the hotel where the Colosseum feels like its within touching distance.
With bellies rumbling we headed, as we did on the Friday, into the main town.
We settled with a restaurant called Emma a hustling and bustling pizza restaurant popular with locals and tourists alike. The food was brilliant
We started with a pear, walnut and cheese salad. Delicious!
Next up I had a in season vegetable pizza which was of course exceptionally tasty. The fact that we were sat next to the kitchen so could see our pizza's being made made the experience even better.
For once, we decided against dessert, we were just too full so instead we thought best to walk off at least some of the pizza by trying to find a new fountain. The turtle fountain however was not quite the Trevi fountain but still, nighttime adventures are what city trips are all about!
We headed back to the hotel for a drink on the rooftop. There was a rock concern going on in the park next door which sadly we didn't know about which went on till 1am, so our early night wasn't quite so early.
We did however have the best view around to enjoy the remainder of our evening before falling asleep as soon as we got into the room.
Where were your favourite stops in Rome?
Love
Erin
