The first stop after Athens and a very early was to the beautiful island of Mykonos. We were staying in an aparthotel called Artemoulas in the southern town called Psarrou around 15 minutes away from the main Mykonos town.
We spent the first day just unpacking, and lounging around the pool before wandering down to the beach where the restaurants could be found. Sadly we fell for a deal where we thought we were getting two courses for 15 euros like we had had in Athens, and although we got two courses, the second course was so small it may as well have been another starter. Certainly not ideal, and so on the way back to our hotel we grabbed a pizza for good measure (we were still hungry after all)!
Our second day was a bizarre day. We awoke to find out that the UK had voted to leave the EU, a decision I was heartbroken with as I will and have always identified myself as an EU citizen along with a British one and it was the first time in my life I have not been proud of the country I was born. The morning was spent in bed, I cried, Lou and I both feel a great loss and anger and frustration with a lot of things but eventually we decided to haul ourselves out of bed and head into Mykonos town.
After catching the bus into the main town we headed over to first check out the windmills which were much bigger than I expected and although sadly not working any more, still worth a quick walk up the hill to as they are so striking.
We then meandered through the streets until we found ourselves in the harbour.
We decided to spend the afternoon no the little beach in Mykonos town which is right in the harbour and perfect if you want to dip your toes in the sea and catch some afternoon rays,
I was determined to see the sunset over little Venice and so, after wandering through the streets back to the other side of town we sat down to watch the sun set which was heavenly (as expected I guess).
After the sunset we went in search of tea and decided to eat at a restaurant called Captains right on the harbour front (yes we did the walk through the streets again, but we managed to walk different ways each time, there really are that many winding paths).
The food is based on a tapas idea where you order courses to share, we had calamari, fried feta and sausage with some pita bread. The food was all absolutely delicious and was so well priced as well! If I went back, it would certainly be on my lists of restaurants to visit.
Have you been to Mykonos Town? Where would you recommend?
Love
