Mt gosh where did February go?! This post is a little different than my normal ramblings around sustainability and life in general. It's about what we all do in our day to day lives and why I think we should all step back outdoors a little more when ever we have the chance.
A while ago I was reminiscing about the days where being inside would have been my worst nightmare. I'm talking about those days where you would ride your bike from friends houses to the park, exploring fields in the middle of no where and playing curby until the sun went down. Every day back then was an opportunity to explore some part of your home town that you hadn't before. The most magical part of the entire experience though, was being away from technology. In fact I often put my phone on silent so that if my mum tried to call I could just apologise for not hearing it ring when I arrived home 20 minutes later than I should have.
Growing up certainly changed the way I spent my time. There was more doing nothing indoor time, more staring at screen time and less spending quality time with friends, family and outdoors time. It was these thoughts which lead me to want to change how I spend my weekends and change how I view social media as well and this led me to #mysundayexploration.
If you follow me on instagram you may have noticed I've been using the hashtag #mysundayexploration most weeks. Well, this is because I feel like once a week, should our health permit we should all get out and explore a little more of the world we live in.
We spend so much of our lives going to places that are familiar to us, that we trust and that are convenient that we miss out on visiting and seeing some incredible places. So that is what #mysundayexploration is all about. Deciding that you're not just going to visit that coffee shop for brunch this week, that you're not going to binge watch 4 episodes of you're favourite show and that you're not going to lay in bed till gone midday (this one I know can be a challenge). It's about finding somewhere within an hour of your house and visiting no matter how random. It could be you deciding to head into a city but visit an area you've never been to before, it could lead you to climbing a mountain, or visiting a trampoline world with your friends. It could be taking in some history at a natural trust property or visiting an art gallery to look at painting you can not undertstand how they're worth so much. It could simply be trying out a new restaurant in the next town across, or going to play laser tag instead of bowling.
For me, my explorations always lead to the outdoors, to walk along a river, to visit an Abbey (or 3) or to climb a big hill near where I live to get some incredible views but that just the way I like to explore and we are all different for that. I'm not saying that lazy days aren't needed they are, but I am saying that if you have a day free, on the odd occassion create your own #mysundayexploration. I promise you wont regret it!
Love
Erin
