Sustainable London; The Three Stags, A Sustainable Restaurant.

I've come to realise where I work, JLL, has a lot more'extra curricular' activities than some other work places in London. One of these extra curricular activities is called the Dining Club. I'd heard about the club through our sustainability team due to the restaurant that was being visited, having a sustainability focus. Naturally I was excited to try out new places in London and having the opportunity to meet new people whilst doing this was of course a win win.

The restaurant we visited was called The Three Stags, located a 2 minute walk from Lambert North tube station. The Three Stags may look like your traditional country gastro pub, but there is more than meets the eye. Along the traditional large wooden tables were small bouquets of fresh flowers on the table, there was a pleasant buzz with plenty of people enjoying drinks. On the main wall, a chalk board stated how the restaurant only uses free range food and sourced locally when ever possible and we were greeted by happy, smiling owners.

Our party was pretty big, with 16 people and so we were given a long table along the side of the pub where we could watch all the hustle and bustle. We each had three courses, my first was asparagus which had arrived that morning from Norfolk, and crispy egg, effectively a scotch egg without the meat. It was really delicious and perfectly cooked as well!

Next up was my main meal of cod with long stem broccoli and tomatoes. The cod had been caught using line fishing methods where the impact to the environment is minimal and the veg was from the UK was well.

Last up, for dessert I had chocolate brownie, which really needed no explanation. Yum yum yum.

All the food was really yummy and was really good value as well. What was incredible is that the owner came and talked to us about where they get their ingredients from. Their lamb is from a free range farmer in Wales and they get their eggs from the same farm.  All of their ingredients are not only organic, but also seasonal meaning their menu is constantly changing. Finally, they do not freeze any of their food because they only want to use fresh produce which is pretty darn impressive.

The passion that the staff have for sustainability and the pub was admiring and I will definitely be going back in summer to enjoy dining outside.

Here's to more restaurants bringing together great food, a beautiful atmosphere, and fantastic company.

The Three Stags is located 67-69 Kennington Rd, Lambeth, London SE1 7PZ. Go check out their website here

Have you been to any sustainable restaurants? Where are your top food spots in London?
