Mykonos; The Best Remote Beaches to Visit

Beaches in Mykonos

Now, although I may have only visited Mykonos once and so my advice may seem a little bit eager, I can only write this post because on the third day in Mykonos we rented a quad bike and travelled around the island to find secluded beaches and lovely spots. By this I mean we may have crossed the island 4 times and seen pretty much every single beach in remote locations, so here are my favourite spots that we saw or passed on our day exploring the island!

1. Fokos and Mersini beaches- Our first stop of the day was over on the north east of the island. Fokos beach was long as sweeping with only about 15 people on but we decided, due to the advice of our hotel, to follow the path up and over the hill to another beach called Mersini.

Mersini, very like Fokos had pale blue waters but there was only 3 other people there and finally felt like we had found our secluded patch of paradise. The water was perfect for snokelling, the family next to us managed to even catch some fish, and the water was so calm and clear.

 2. Unnamed beach- Talking about remote beaches, this one doesn't even appear to have a name. The closest beach to it is Lia beach, but instead of following the road down to the beach you turn left and head up along the hills and windy lanes until you eventually reach a small field near some villas.

From there you need to walk 500m down to the beach. Yes it is a little tricky to get to, I would say for scooters it would not be possible, but it is definitely worth it. The views are stunning and although somehow the beach is a little busier than Fokos an Mersini it is still worth a visit. The wind also seems to pick up a little more in the bay so will help to keep you slightly cooler at midday. The beach unlike the others we visited was small pebbles instead of sand, so do bare that in mind if you were hoping to build sand castles.

3. Agios Sostis beach- Agios Sostis was our second stop of the day and is situated in the North of the island. The beach is a little busier than the other beaches, hence we decided not to stay as we were in search for the most remote as possible but although it was slightly busier it was easy to understand why! The sea had a gradual slope so didn't get deep to quickly making it perfect for families. The beach also had soft white sand with clear light blue oceans, the stuff dreams are made of really. It would definitely be somewhere I would want to go back to if I was visiting the island for a week!

4. Ftelia beach- Like Fokos, Mersini and Agios Sostis beach this one is also situated in the North of the island. The beach is pretty long with white sand and a sweeping bay. The beach again is a little busier than Fokos an Mersini but because it's so big this doesn't really matter as you have plenty of room to spread out in, the water depth is also slightly more gradual than seen n Fokos and Mersini so it really does depend on what you are looking for!

There are plenty of other beaches around the island, naturally Paradise and Super Paradise are the party beaches. A heads up if you're wanting to go, Paradise is better for parties than Super Paradise. The super has nothing to do with how good the party scene is!

Then of course there are the more commercial beaches where the entire beach is covered in sunbeds where you are required to buy a drink (one of my biggest annoyances on holiday) but the spots I thought made up for the sunloungers due to the beach and see were Platys Gialos which was right by the hotel, Panormos Beach in the north of the island where there are plenty of places to grab a drink and lounge around of cushions, and Elia beach in the south of the island which happens to be the longest beach in Mykonos and so plenty of choice where you wish to sit, and also nice to wander along the sand and dip your toes in for a cool down.

Mykonos beaches are certainly impressive with so many of them as well! What are your favourite beaches? Where would you like to explore?

Love
