New York Reminising

Last August I went to New York City for my 21st. We met up with one of my oldest friends who moved back to America when we were 9 and so getting to have a girly weekend with out parents was amazing.

Whilst recovering in bed a few weeks ago I suddenly realised that I never did the blog post about my trip as I went of to Africa so quickly after and so, here is a little snip of my time there. I remember being determined to go back again as soon as I left, so hopefully it wont be to long until I return to the city that never sleeps.

My trip there lasted 4 days, Our hotel was brilliant, we had a room with 2 double beds and so Mum and me had one, and Maddie and Rebecca had the other. The hotel we stayed in was really close to Times Square and Central Park, which was brilliant meaning we could get to everywhere really easily.

Once we had unpacked, we headed down to times square. After a wander round we found a typical american restaurant with huge portions but the food was pretty tasty. It was lovely to have a catch up adn it was incredible to wander around the city. We decided that an early night was a good idea so that we could get the most out of the rest of our time.

Day two started with us heading into Central Park. We rented bikes from just outside the park and spent a few hours cycling around and exploring the best parts of the park.

My dress is from topshop and is absolutely stunning, it glitters in all lights and because it is baggy you dont have to worry about sweat marks or it being tight. I paired it with a pair of lavender cycling shorts so that I could ride my bicycle without a care in the world.

After a quick change of clothes we then headed to the Russian tea rooms for afternoon tea, which was certainly an experience. The sandwiches were so unusual and the deserts, especially the scones were the tastiest treats I had had in ages.

Happy Birthday to me!
After a quick bite to eat we then headed to the theatre where we watched If/Then which was Idena Menzels new broadway show. Sadly she was ill, but her stand in was incredible. As Idena was ill, we were offered free tickets to see the show again (which we did on the Friday night, and she was incredible!).

The next morning we headed down to Brookyln bridge after meeting up with some of Rebecca's friends for breakfast at a little but well known place called the Clinton Street Bakery. It is worth the wait for a table as the food is out of this world!

From there we went on the boat tour around the Statue of Liberty, it was so hot even in the breeze!

After our tour we headed back to the hotel before sneaking in a bite to eat and then heading to see Kinky Boots the musical, based on the UK film. It was AMAZING, a definite must see if you love big bold performances that leave you feeling good. I just cant believe that the musical hasnt reached the UK yet!

Saturday morning arrived and we decided to go and join in with Yoga in Central Park which was so lovely and relaxing. I would highly recommend giving it ago as you can easily book online and after the class you can grab a really healthy and tasty lunch at the cafe in the middle of the park which became my new food heaven. I just wish we had them back home because everything on the menu was delicious!

After getting ready we then hit the shops for a little afternoon shopping which was great fun. The exchange rate, although good, meant that clothes still seemed really expensive whilst over there so I didnt buy much but some of the botiques that they have are incredible.

We then grabbed some pizza before heading to see If/Then for the second time. After the show, Maddie and I raced back to the hotel to get ready for our night on the town. Although still under 21 there are plenty of places to go. You are just given a wrist band to say that they cant serve you alcohol and it means that you spend your time dancing instead of queuing. We went to the club at the NYC campus which was brilliant as we were out with lots of students so you didnt feel young!

The next morning Maddie and Rebecca had to leave early for their flight and so mum and I spent out time looking round the natural history museum and enjoying the sunshine at our favourite cafe in central park.

Our trip flew by and there is so much still left to in the city. I really can not wait to go back!!

  1. Hi Erin,
I have been to New York 10 years ago for a friends wedding they got married in central park which was really nice.
Unfortunately we only stayed 3 days so we didn't get to do a lot I would have loved to go on a boat ride and gone to a musical but we just didn't have time for it.
We saw all the landmarks like the statue of liberty and times square and the shops but like you I didn't buy a lot.
Sounds like you did fit a lot into your trip though :-)
